             THEY'RE CIRCLING THE WAGONS AGAIN

Having worked in the 1962-64 Presidential Campaign for Senator
Goldwater and now watching the GOP campaign of 1996 I think of
Yogi Berra's famous "deja vou all over again."

The GOP power brokers feared the "extremist" candidacy of Barry
and did everything possible to defeat him before and AFTER his
nomination. That same fear is coming to the fore relative to the
"extremist" candidacy of Pat Buchanan.

Slowly those "powers," -- new, but of same mind set -- are
"circling the wagons" against the "verbal bombardment of Pat and his
minions."

Bob Dole hardly waited for Phil Gramm to land back in Texas
before he called him back to NH to endorse him (Phil looked like he
was a victim of whiplash as he inelegantly called Pat a racist while
endorsing the man who Gramm referred to as "Senator Straddle"
who didn't believe in "The Contract.."

Evidently they are not convinced that Pat is un-acceptable to a
majority of Republicans, ergo the "extremist mud'' slinging.

It will be interesting in San Diego when, if Pat fails, they
tell his numerous loyal supporters that they are not extremists
and please "come home."
