You may have missed the premise of the original hypothetical situation. It
included an observed improper behavior prior to  anything going wrong.
Obviously no one can avoid any situation that occurs in a time segment that
is shorter than reaction time. But that applies to amything not just guns.
But that was not the stated premise of the hypothetical.
