According to the L.A. Times, West Hollywood has spent
$250,000 thus far on their legal battle over the "Saturday Night
Special" ban they enacted in 1996. The city, as an inducement
to pass the ban on affordable handguns, was promised financial
support from several gun control groups in the event that they
were taken to court. West Hollywood, the first city in
California to pass such a ban, was subsequently sued by NRA and
the California Rifle and Pistol Association and has yet to
receive any assistance from those groups who pledged their
assistance. As one political observer noted, "that's a high
price for political correctness and the legal battle isn't
over...."
