A Dallas County jury deliberated six hours to find a 14-year
old defendant guilty of capital murder. The case involved the killing
of a popular school teacher.

The defendant had been certified as an adult, not a juvenile.
The age in question was the lowest one in the county for such
certification. The prosecutor had urged the jury to communicate a
clear message concerning crime.

The sentence was "life" in prison. although the individual
could be eligible for parole in 40 years at age 54.
