Poll: Mrs. Clinton's popularity is up
                 Associated Press
                 October 11, 1997

WASHINGTON - Most Americans approve of Hillary Rodham
Clinton and her performance as first lady, a U.S.
News & World Report poll suggests. The rating - about
two out of three respondents approved of her
performance - was the first lady's best since 1993 in
a U.S. News & World Report poll. In the magazine's
newest edition, appearing on newsstands Sunday, the
poll showed 59% of registered voters have a favorable
view of Mrs. Clinton and 67% approve of the way she
handles the position of first lady. But the poll
found voters evenly divided as to whether she should
take a more traditional first lady role. The poll of
1,000 adults has a margin of error of plus or minus
