Gore accuses GOP of racism October 31, 1999

 BY ROBERT NOVAK SUN-TIMES COLUMNIST

"While Senate Democratic Leader Thomas Daschle publicly accused
Republicans of racial insensitivity, Vice President Al Gore privately
indicted the GOP for racism in a conference call with more than 100
prominent African Americans.

Gore cited Republican opposition to former Sen. Carol Moseley-Braun of
Illinois as ambassador to New Zealand, and the Senate's rejection of
Missouri Supreme Court Judge Ronnie White as a federal district judge.
Mobilizing the black vote is viewed by the vice president's advisers as
central to his presidential campaign...."

Mr. Gore's desparate charge of racism to shore up his declining
presidential campaign can become a deadly political "double edge sword."
To follow the "logic" of such a demogogic charge, all those Democrat
Senators who voted against Judge Thomas' Supreme Court Nomination were
racists.
