Basically, he was concerned about the recent penchant of politicians
(Republicans in particular) to act based on public opinion polls
rather then the principles for which they were elected and what they
think is best for the country. Since it is obvious that this thing is
not even as good as a "scientific" poll it could result in what
effectively would be mob rule. He made it clear he was not condemning
nor endorsing the idea but expressing a concern. He went on to say
that as result of OBE and revised history too many Americans think
this country is a democracy and have the romantic notion that
democracy is the best form of government. There are even some that
contend that the founders would have opted for democracy if they had
the instant communications thne we have now. As Rush pointed out the
founders knew democracy would be a disaster and would never have
chosen anything other then a Constitutional Republic. Democracy is 2
wolves and 1 sheep voting on what is for lunch.
