[Rushtalk] Myth and Truth About Libertarianism

Standing armies leads to military acting as law enforcement, which is
exactly what we are seeing today. The next step is tyranny.

Always remember what Ben Franklin said, "Anyone who trades liberty for
security deserves neither liberty nor security"

The issue of a standing army is a troubled one today, given that the world
has changed and become more dangerous over the last 200 years. From my
perspective, given that things can and do happen so much faster now, logic
and necessities of national defense may argue most strongly in favor of one.
We can't take the time to pull a military together in an emergency in
today's reality.

The Constitution can be implemented on a local level and work quite well.
The only need for a Federal Government would be to negotiate trade treaties
and to establish self defense. Notice I said defense, not offense. The
Constitution clearly states that we should only have a standing Navy and in
fact the founding fathers were against the idea of having standing armies
like we have now. I can fully understand why people say we do not need a
Federal Government given our current status in this country. I'm not sure
what the Somalia model is.

Here we are back to the Somalia model yet again.
