To Lincoln preserving the union was more important
than freeing the slaves. To Davis preserving slavery was more important
than preserving the union. Lincoln went to great lenghts to avoid a
shooting war. Davis was willing to fire the first shot.

murder.... do you mean except President Davis and his Confederate
Govt? You dismiss patriotism as falling for govt propaganda, except
for the righteousness of your civil war beliefs? You mock fighting for
the power and the wealth of those who run the govt, but not those who
own plantations? You mock the myth of fighting for liberty or freedom,
except the freedom to own slaves?
In case you didn't notice, that first post re>govt paid murderer is the one where this combat vet got ticked at you.
