Some great shoe-leather
<http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/lupica-lanza-plotted-massacre-years-article-1.1291408?localLinksEnabled=false>reporting
by Mike Lupica of the New York Daily News has
shed more light on the massacre at Sandy Hook
Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. – providing
the kind of detailed information and background
on shooter Adam Lanza that raises even more
doubts that the guns and ammo clips used would
have made any difference in the body count.

This was an attack involving a great deal of
meticulous, time-consuming planning by Lanza. The
police found a spreadsheet maintained by the
shooter that was 7-feet-long and 4-feet-wide on
previous mass murderers, providing names, body
counts and weapons used in attacks.

“It sounded like a doctoral thesis,” said one
law-enforcement officer. “That was the quality of the research.”

It’s also clear from the investigation that Lanza
targeted Sandy Hook three months ago because the
school would provide little resistance, allowing
him “to rack up victims in a quest for notoriety.”

Why was he so certain there would be no
resistance? Because, like so many other public
<http://www.wnd.com/2013/03/guns-the-problem/#>schools,
it was a “gun-free zone” in which no one would likely be able to return fire.

In addition, Lanza’s obsession with violent video
games seemed to be the key to his bloody plans.
As the report says, “it wasn’t just a
spreadsheet” Lanza had prepared. “It was a score sheet.”

About that “dreaded” AR-15 with 30-round clips
the media whipped up hysteria about. Lanza didn’t
need them. The 20-year-old reloaded before
entering new rooms, even if he had not exhausted the ammunition he was using.

A veteran cop who investigated the crime scene
says Lanza belongs to a new group of mass
murderers. He calls them “glory killers.” It’s
about “gaming” with these twisted people –
scoring high in body counts, just like in the video games they play.

Continued the cop: “This was the work of a video
gamer, and that it was his intent to put his own
name at the very top of that list. They believe
that he picked an elementary school because he
felt it was a point of least resistance, where he
could rack up the greatest number of kills.
That’s what (the Connecticut police) believe.
They believe that (Lanza) believed that it was
the way to pick up the easiest points. It’s why
he didn’t want to be killed by law enforcement.
In the code of a gamer, even a deranged gamer
like this little bastard, if somebody else kills
you, they get your points. They believe that’s
why he killed himself. They have pictures from
two years before, with the guy all strapped with
weapons, posing with a pistol to his head. That’s
the thing you have to understand: He had this
laid out for years before. He didn’t snap that
day, he wasn’t one of those guys who was mad as
hell and wasn’t going to take it anymore. He had
been planning this thing forever. In the end, it
was just a perfect storm: These guns, one of them
an AR-15, in the hands of a violent, insane
gamer. It was like porn to a rapist. They feed on
it until they go out and say, enough of the video
screen. Now I’m actually going to be a hunter.”

Police believe Lanza, immersed in the fantasy
world of video games, killed himself to prevent
law enforcement from taking his “points.”

“The fascination (Lanza) had with this subject
matter, the complete and total concentration.
There really was no other subject matter inside
his head. Just this: Kill, kill, kill. It really
was like he was lost in one of his own sick
games. That’s what we heard. That he learned
something from his game that you learn in
(police) school, about how if you’re moving from
room to room – the way he was in that school –
you have to reload before you get to the next
room. Maybe he has a 30-round magazine clip, and
he’s only used half of it. But he’s willing to
dump 15 rounds and have a new clip before he arrives in the next room.”

The violent video games is where he got his training, police say.

“They believe he learned the principles of this –
the tactical reload – from his game. Reload
before you’re completely out. Keep going. When
the strap broke on his first weapon (the AR-15),
he went to his handgun at the end. Classic police
training. Or something you learn playing kill games.”

Maybe instead of confiscating guns from
law-abiding citizens who could have defended
those children and teachers from Lanza, the
government should be focused on the dangers of
violent video games and how they are capable of
twisting the minds of young people – turning them
into cold-calculating killing machines without a conscience.
