Dem Nominee For Georgia Governor Linked With Chinese Firm

The Democratic candidate for governor of Georgia, Stacey Abrams,
co-chaired a group that donated tens of thousands of dollars to
anti-police demonstrators. An executive of Alibaba, a Chinese company
that apparently assisted in the development of the monitoring
technologies used against Uyghur Muslims, provides funding to this
organization for racial justice.

In April 2021, Abrams was officially named co-chair of the Black Voices
for Black Justice Fund (BVBJ). Additionally, she had said in a press
release at the time that she was thrilled and honored to be a part of
the organization because it puts Black leaders in the driving seat, with
Black activists on the ground who are aware of how racism manifests
itself in their community defining the issue and offering solutions.

The organization, according to a report, has awarded $20,000 prizes to
hundreds of Black activists around the nation to be used however they
feel will best advance racial justice in their communities at this
critical juncture.

Sharhonda Bossier, CEO of Education Leaders of Color, who pushed for
police defunding during the Floyd protests in May 2021, was one of these
prize winners.

The Joe and Clara Tsai Foundation, a private grant-making foundation, is
one of 18 partners in the Black Voices for Black Justice Fund, which
presents itself as a pooled philanthropy fund. the Chan Zuckerberg
Initiative, Delaware Community Foundation & Rodel Foundation, Kenan
Charitable Trust, Red Crane Foundation, and The Moriah Fund, among the
other 17 organizations.

Canadian-born billionaire Joe Tsai is the founder of the Joe and Clara
Tsai Foundation, situated in La Jolla, California. Additionally, he
co-founded Alibaba Group, one of China’s leading technology companies
that actively promotes Chinese communist, and currently holds the
position of executive vice chairman of the company.

Alibaba cooperated with the Xinjiang government in 2014 to provide cloud
computing technologies for use in law enforcement and counterterrorism,
according to a research by the Australian Strategic Policy Institute.

Tsai has kept her opinions on China’s treatment of Uyghurs to herself.
He stated to the Milken Institute in 2018 that it was crucial for China
to restrict its citizens’ freedoms in order to establish and maintain
complete calm in the nation.

Inquiries about whether she was aware of Tsai’s ties to China’s human
rights violations or whether she would oppose BVBJ’s collaboration with
his foundation were unanswered by the democratic campaign.
